Rosenberg Advances In Honolulu Challenger

WAIPIO, Oahu – University of Hawaii's men's tennis player Leo Rosenberg defeated Hendrik Bode 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the first round the Honolulu Challenger, a USTA Pro Circuit event Tuesday at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.

The sophomore now advances to the round of 16 in the inaugural event which features world-class professional tennis players ranked in the Top 200 as well as local and former collegiate players. Rosenberg, competing as an amateur, earned a wild card berth into the main draw after capturing the Honolulu Masters last October. Bode, a former Hawaii Pacific University player, was also a wild card entry.

Rosenberg earns seven ATP points for advancing.  He will now face No.2 seed Kevin Kim on Thursday. Kim, ranked No. 108 in the world, moves on to the next round after battling Tatsuma Ito of Japan, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5).

UH's other entry in the tournament, junior Dennis Lajola lost in straight during the qualifying rounds on Sunday.
