Track & Field To Host Manoa Mile, Dr. Donnis Thompson Memorial

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team will hold their inaugural fundraising event, the Manoa Mile, in conjunction with the Dr. Donnis Thompson Memorial Meet this weekend at Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
 
The Manoa Mile race will start on Lower Campus Road, and finish at the Ching Field track. Each Mile race will be divided into various categories with a 400-meter “Rubba Slippa” race to conclude the day's events. The winner of each race (including the “Rubba Slippa” race) will receive a Champion's T-shirt. Packet pick up for all participants will be at Ching Field, Friday Feb. 5 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6 from 6:30 a.m.-7:45 a.m.
 
The Thompson Memorial is the second all-comer meet that the team will host during the indoor season in preparation for mainland competition.
 
The hammer, javelin, and discus events as well as the elite men's mile, elite women's 5,000 and 'Ohana 4x400 relay will be held on Friday, Feb. 5 beginning at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's competition begins at 2:00 p.m. and includes all sprints and hurdles and the remainder of the distance and field events.
 
For those interested in competing, entries are to be completed on the day of the competition and will be allowed up to 30 minutes before each event. Registration will be open 30 minutes before the first scheduled field event and two and a half hours before the first scheduled track event.
 
Other Sunset Series meets include Mini Meet #2 (Feb. 13), Terry Albritton Memorial Meet (Feb. 19-20), Mini Meet #3 (March 20), Mini Meet #4 (March 27), Mini Meet #5 (April 10), Mini Meet #6 (April 17), and Sunset Finale (April 30-May 1).
