Women's Water Polo Drops First MPSF Match To No. 4 California

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 3 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (4-1, 0-1 MPSF) dropped its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match to No. 4 California (6-0, 1-0 MPSF) Wednesday in a 7-4 loss at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, Calif. 

The Bears held the Rainbow Wahine to no goals up until halftime, where they sat 4-0 behind California. UH stepped it up in the third quarter, outscoring California 2-1 but were matched 2-2 in the final set. Unable to climb back, the Rainbow Wahine were defeated 7-4.

Senior Dagmar Genee lead the UH, scoring two of the team's four goals. Sophomore Monika Eggens and junior Saara Majuri added one goal each.

The Rainbow Wahine continue on the road this weekend at the Stanford Tournament in Stanford, Calif. They open against No. 9 Arizona State on Feb. 6 at 10:50 a.m. PT (8:50 a.m. HT) and No. 5 UCLA at 6:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. HT).
