“Volley Ka Pila” Concert To Showcase UH Student Musicians

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department will host the first-ever “Volley Ka Pila,” a concert involving UH students, following the men's volleyball match against Hope International, Friday, Feb. 19 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Fans who attend the volleyball match will be allowed to stay for the concert, which will showcase the musical talents of UH students. Among the participants is Kala'e Camarillo, a recent Kamehameha Schools-Maui graduate and redshirt setter on the men's volleyball team. UH Hawaiian Ensemble instructor Chadwick Pang is coordinating the event and his students will perform local jams and pop music.

“As we try to build fan excitement around our men's volleyball program, we continue to look for new ways to add value to our events for our fans as well as generate more student interest,” UH head coach Charlie Wade said.

KFVE will air a portion of the concert live.

At the conclusion of the match fans may move to unoccupied seats closer to the court. Tickets for the match are $11 (lower level), $8 (upper level-adult), $5 (lower level-UH student), $7 (upper level-senior citizen), and $3 (upper level-students, UH students).

The name of the event is taken from the Hawaiian phrase kani ka pila, translated loosely as “to gather together and play music.”
