Women’s Basketball Falls Short Against Nevada Monday Night

RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team lost its second straight road game Monday night, falling to Nevada, 76-56 at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev. UH concludes its three-game road trip Wednesday night at San Jose State.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 9-16 overall and 3-9 in Western Athletic Conference play. Nevada improves to 15-11 overall and 9-3 in conference action, moving into second place in the conference standings.

UH kept the game close in the first half, but couldn't keep Nevada off the boards in the second half, as the Wolf Pack outrebounded the Rainbow Wahine 51-27 for the game.

Junior point guard Keisha Kanekoa led the way with 14 points, including 10 in the first half. Leilani Galdones had 10 points and sophomore Katie Wilson came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Overall UH shot 38.2 percent from the field, breaking a streak of four straight games shooting over 43 percent from the field.

In the first half, Kanekoa led the way for the Rainbow Wahine, scoring 11 points, but UH trailed Nevada 41-31 at the break.

Coming off the bench, Katie Wilson scored eight points in the first half, followed by Galdones with six. UH shot 40.7 percent from the field and had nine first half steals, forcing Nevada into 13 turnovers.

The Rainbow Wahine wrap up their three-game road trip Wednesday night at San Jose State. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. PT at the Events Center in San Jose, Calif.
