UH High Jumper Selected As WAC’s Field Athlete Of The Week

DENVER – University of Hawai'i's Sarah Saddleton was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of February 8-14. Saddleton was selected as the “field” representative.

Saddleton, a sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand (ACG Strathallan), won the high jump clearing 5-10 (1.78m) at the Washington Indoor Open in Seattle, Wash. on Sunday. The result is an NCAA Provisional mark and a new indoor personal best for Saddleton.

Saddleton joins fellow UH high jumper Amber Kaufman on the NCAA Championship performance list. Kaufman is already an NCAA automatic qualifier, after achieving the nation's top mark of 6-3.25 (1.91m) several weeks ago at the Lobo Challenge in Albuquerque, N.M. Saddleton's mark is provisional, which means she will need to be selected to the championship – based on top heights – from a pool of high jumpers around the country.

Fresno State's Roxanne Sellick earned the WAC's “track” athlete of the week. Sellick, a senior from Fresno, Calif. (Bullard HS), ran a career-best 4:51.55 to take second place in the one-mile run at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday. She was a half second back of first place, beating out 34 competitors for the silver. The one-mile time is the fastest in the WAC this season.

Saddleton and the rest of the Rainbow Wahine will host the Terry Albritton Invitational this weekend at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field. The two-day meet runs Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20.
