Women’s Basketball Sends Senior Dita Liepkalne Off With Victory Over Boise State

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team held off Boise State for a 66-64 victory Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, sending senior Dita Liepkalne off on a high note.

Liepkalne, a four-year letterwinner who has played in 109 career games, won her final game in a UH uniform at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine led for the entire game, and held off a late rally by the Broncos.

The Rainbow Wahine improve to 10-18 overall and 4-11 in Western Athletic Conference action. Boise State fell to 17-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

The win also moves UH closer to clinching a spot in the WAC Tournament. The Rainbow Wahine are two games ahead of San Jose State in the win column. The Rainbow Wahine have one game remaining, while San Jose State has two games left.

On senior night, Liepkalne scored a game-high 17 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers. Liepkalne was also two points shy of tying her career-high.

Four players scored in double figures for UH, along with Liepkalne, Julita Bungaite scored 13 points, Breanna Arbuckle added 11 points and Allie Patterson added 10 points.

Arbuckle also recorded her second career double-double, with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine went on a 7-0 run, midway through the first half to open up a 26-16 after a Keisha Kanekoa 3-pointer. UH built on its lead at the half, taking a 38-27 advantage into the break.

UH had a balanced scoring attack in the first half and shot 50 percent as a team. Liepkalne and Bungaite each scored nine points and Patterson added eight points. Arbuckle had six points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Rainbow Wahine also played strong defense, holding Boise State to 33.3 percent shooting from the field and outrebounding the Broncos 23-17.

UH ends the regular season on the road against Utah State on March 6. The Rainbow Wahine have nine days off in between games.
