Track & Field In Fifth After Day 2 Of WAC Indoors

Day 2 Results

NAMPA, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i track and field team completed the second day of the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with several noteworthy performances.
 
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine are currently in fifth place with 19 points heading into Saturday's final day of competition. Idaho leads the standings with 44 points followed by Utah State (34), Louisiana Tech (30), New Mexico State (30), UH, Nevada (19), Fresno State (10), and Boise State (9).
 
In the long jump, sophomore Jamilee Jimenez placed seventh, earning two team points, with a leap of 17-11.75 (5.48m).
 
Newcomer Jessica Forrester qualified for the finals of the mile after clocking in at 5:13.40. Later in the day, she competed in the 5000-meter run and placed fourth with a time of 17:53.33, earning five team points.
 
Senior Sam Whitehall posted the fifth fastest time in the 800-meter prelims at 2:17.46 to advance to Saturday's finals.
 
In the shot put competition, junior Careena Onosai earned one team point with an eighth place finish and a heave of 42-1.5 (12.83m).
 
UH's distance medley relay team capped the first full-day of competition with a fifth place showing and a time of 12:33.48, good for four team points.
 
Saturday's final day of competition will determine the 2010 champion. Louisiana Tech is the four-time defending women's team champion.
