Baseball 'Bows Hold Off No. 25 Oregon 2-1

Box Score

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (3-3) won a pitcher's duel over the No. 25 Oregon Ducks (3-3) 2-1 in front of a crowd of 3,151 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Matt Sisto (1-1) got the win, allowing just one unearned run on three hits in 6.0 inning pitched. Justin LaTempa (0-1) took the loss for Oregon while Lenny Linsky picked up his second save in as many nights after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Breland Almadova came up with the big blast for the Rainbows, hitting a solo home run, going 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt. Greg Garcia added a 1-for-4 game with a double and one RBI while Collin Bennett went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Almadova put Hawai'i on the scoreboard right away, blasting a lead-off home run down the rightfield line to give the 'Bows a quick 1-0 edge.

The Ducks scored on an error by the Rainbows in the top of the third to tie it up. But UH came right back as Garcia doubled in Sean Montplaisir, giving them back the lead at 2-1.

And from there, the pitching took over. After Sisto finished his outing, Alex Capaul came in and gave Hawai'i two perfect innings to get to Linsky, UH's closer. Linsky gave up a hit to start the ninth before inducing three ground outs to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The two teams continue the series tomorrow with a 1:05 p.m. game at Les Murakami Stadium. They will then conclude with a 1:05 p.m. game on Sunday.
