GAME NOTES
HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i softball team (22-11) opens its Western Athletic Conference season against San Jose State (22-9) in a three game series this week at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The 'Bows closed their non-conference season posting a 4-2 record in last week's Chevron Spring Fling Tournament. Hawai`i defeated Lipscomb three times and No. 13/12 California once. Reigning WAC Hitter of the Week, freshman centerfielder
Kelly Majam, hit a double and five home runs and led UH with six runs, and six RBI in the tournament. Third baseman
Melissa Gonzalez led the 'Bows with a .529 average (9-for-17) with a pair of doubles and three homers. On the mound, freshman
Kaia Parnaby posted a 3-1 record with two complete game wins—including a 3-0 win with a career-high 12 strike outs over Cal.
Overall, the dynamic duo of Majam and Gonzalez are tied atop the 'Bows season statistics with an identical .394 batting average. Majam is 41-for-104 and continues to lead UH with 34 runs scored, 41 hits, two triples, 15 home runs, and 26 RBI. She has fired 12 complete games with two shut outs with 37 walks and 82 strike outs.
The Spartans come into the Islands with a league-best 22-8 record. Last week, SJSU went 2-3 at the Judy Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. One of their wins was a 5-4 win over No. 11 Oklahoma.
