Track & Field Continues Road Trip; Keenan Named WAC AOW

Meet Notes

The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team will participate in three separate meets this week in northern California - the Cal Multi-Event Meet, March 24-25, the full-squad Stanford Invitational, March 26-27, and San Francisco State Distance Carnival, March 26.

Discus thrower TeRina Keenan was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at last week's USC Trojan Invitational. Keenan, who earned the "field" weekly award, captured the discus title with a huge personal-best throw of 51.69 meters (169 feet, 7 inches). Keenan beat out throwers from Texas and USC and was nearly eight feet better than runner-up Okwukwe Okolie of Texas.

The mark currently ranks second in the nation and is over nine feet better than the second-place mark in the WAC so far this season. It also ranks third all-time in school history. Keenan's award marks the fourth for the Rainbow Wahine this season. High jumpers Amber Kaufman (twice) and Sarah Saddleton have each been honored by the conference.

Heptathletes Samantha Balentine and Natalija Waldhuber will compete in the Cal Multi-Event Meet at Cal's Edwards Stadium & Goldman Field. The Rainbow Wahine will then send a contingent of 12 athletes to the Stanford Invitational held at the Cobb Track & Angell Field. Among the UH participants include All-American Kaufman, who will make her outdoor season debut this season. The distance runners will compete at the SFSU Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium.

Last week, the Rainbow Wahine participated in the USC Trojan Invitational. In addition to Keenan's performance, another the highlight included Madara Apine's school-record in the triple jump.
