UH Football Heads To Kaua‘i For Scrimmage This Saturday

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i football team will hold a practice and scrimmage on the island of Kaua'i, Saturday, April 10, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to bring items for the autograph session to follow.

The trip marks the first for the football team to the Garden Island since the early 1990s. Co-sponsor Hawaiian Airlines is providing air transportation for the more than 150 players, coaches, and support staff. The County of Kaua'i is also a co-sponsor and the host of the event, providing Vidinha Stadium facilities, along with ground transportation and lunch for the UH travel party.

The event marks the second-straight year that the Warriors will make an appearance on a neighbor island during spring practice. Last year, the team held a practice/scrimmage at Maui's War Memorial Stadium.

It will also mark a homecoming for several Warriors who were born and raised on the Garden Isle. Junior defensive back Kenny Estes is a 2006 graduate of Waimea High School. Junior defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga was born and raised in Kalaheo, Kaua'i and attended Kamehameha Schools on O'ahu. Junior wide receiver Jett Jasper is a 2006 graduate of Kaua'i High School. Senior defensive lineman Kamalu Umu, of Kapa'a, is a 2006 graduate of Saint Louis School on O'ahu and later attended Charleton Southern University for two years.
The Warriors are in the midst of spring camp, which began last week and runs through April 30 with the annual Warrior Bowl at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field on the lower campus.
