Rainbow Warriors Close Out WAC Regular Season On The Road

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 42 UH men's tennis team (8-6, 2-0 WAC) heads to New Mexico this week to close out their regular-season schedule against Western Athletic Conference teams Boise State and New Mexico State. UH will face the Broncos on   Thursday April 15 and the host Aggies on Saturday April 17 at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.

UH (8-6) is currently 2-0 in WAC play and is coming off a big win over then No. 28 Fresno State on April 3. UH hasn't been in action since and had their season's final two home matches against Utah State and Idaho rained out during that same weekend. The Rainbow Warriors led Idaho, 3-0, in before play was halted.

UH's matchup against Boise State (15-9, 3-1 WAC) will be especially crucial. Both teams are in the hunt for the WAC title and with a win UH would likely earn the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament which begins April 30 in Fresno, Calif. The Broncos are ranked No. 44 in the latest ITA ranked and supply one nationally ranked player in singles action – No. 48 James Meredith. New Mexico State (10-6, 1-3 WAC) meanwhile looks to bounce back after a pair of losses to Nevada and Boise State this past weekend.

UH has gotten solid play recently from its big three of Dennis Lajola, Andreas Weber and Leo Rosenberg. Lajola was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for March 29-April 4 after UH's win over Fresno State and is currently ranked No. 110 in singles by the ITA. Rosenberg, meanwhile, remains undefeated 14 dual matches this year.  Weber, has won five of his last six singles matches and along with doubles partner Philipp Eberhard, took down the No. 19 duo of Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers to fuel UH's win over Fresno State. The pair are now ranked No. 73 in doubles by the ITA.

Following this week's matches, the Rainbow Warriors will have nearly a two-week break before heading into the first round of the WAC Tournament in Fresno, Calif. on April 30.
