Men’s Volleyball Signs Scott Hartley For 2011

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's volleyball head coach Charlie Wade announced the signing of Scott Hartley of La Costa Canyon High School to a National Letter of Intent. Hartley is the third player to sign with the Warriors for the 2011 season.

A 6-foot-5 left-side hitter, Hartley was named to Volleyball magazine's “Underclassmen to Watch” in June 2009. As a junior at La Costa Canyon, he averaged 2.92 kills per set and ranked fourth in the league with a 0.53 service ace average and was an all-CIF first-team pick. He led the Mavericks to their second consecutive CIF San Diego Section Division I championship after sharing the Avocado League title with Torrey Pines.

For the past several years, Hartley has also been a member of U.S.A. Volleyball's High Performance teams. He is currently a member of Seaside Volleyball Club in San Diego, Calif., and last season played for Orange Coast Volleyball Club.

“Scott has really played at a high level of volleyball,” Wade said. “He fits the profile of the type of player we want to bring in, a good student and skilled volleyball player. He has the drive and determination to want to be better and that's the quality we look for in all of our players.”

During the early signing period in November, middle blocker Shane Popelka of Chesapeake, Va., and outside hitter/middle blocker Shane Welch of Coral Springs, Fla., signed their Letters of Intent.
