Men’s Basketball Lands Standout Point Guard

HONOLULU – University of Hawai`i men's basketball coach Gib Arnold announced the addition of another player to the 2010-11 recruiting class. Point guard Bobby Miles signed a national letter of intent and will join the Rainbow Warriors this fall with four years of eligibility.

Miles, who is listed at 6-1 and 190 lbs., just completed a standout senior season for Workman High School in City of Industry, Calif. He averaged 27.0 ppg, 14.0 rebounds and 5.6 apg en route to his second straight league MVP award. He was also named first-team all-all area, second-team all-CIF Division 4A and nominated as a McDonald's All-American.

“We're thrilled to have Bobby join our UH family,” Arnold said. “He's a phenomenal kid who I believe Hawai`i fans will really enjoy watching for the next four years. He just started to burst onto the national scene and his future is extremely bright.”

Miles was a four-year starter and all-league performer for Workman. He was first-team all-league three seasons straight and earned MVP honors in his final two seasons. As a junior he averaged 16.8 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 3.3 apg, and 3.7 spg. During his senior season he led Workman to the league title with an 11-1 record. In his final high school game, Miles exploded for 43 points and 12 rebounds during a first-round loss in the CIF playoffs.

“As a point guard,” Arnold added, “I believe Bobby has great leadership skills and the the ability to create his own shot and shots for others. He's young—only 17—and we're excited to work with him and the rest of our recruiting class in building this program.”

Miles also excelled in just one summer of AAU basketball, leading Southeast Elite to the championship game of both the Coca-Cola Classic and the Best of Summer tournament. The Los Angeles native was recruited heavily on the West Coast by schools from the Pac 10, WCC, WAC and Big Sky conferences.

Miles is the sixth player to join this year's UH recruiting and is the fifth player signed by Arnold since the late period began less than two weeks ago. He is also the third Southern California prepster signed by UH, joining Jordan Coleman (Calabasas) and Trevor Wiseman (Valencia).
