HONOLULU – University of Hawai`i men's basketball coach Gib Arnold announced that junior college transfer Dominick Brumfield has signed a national letter of intent. Brumfield becomes the seventh member of UH's 2010-11 recruiting class and will join the Rainbow Warriors this fall with three years of eligibility.

 

Brumfield, a 6-8, 220 lbs. forward averaged 14. 2 ppg and 8.2 rpg as a freshman for Big Bend College in Moses Lake, Wash., last season. Brumfield earned second-team all-conference honors while leading Big Bend to 17 wins and a second-place division finish.

 

“Dominick is player who has the ability to play multiple positions,” Arnold said. “His size allows him to post up and his skill and athleticism allows him to play on the perimeter. As we build this program, it's important to find young players who can score in a variety of ways and also have the ability to guard different positions. Dom can do these things.”

 

Brumfield attended Missouri State in 2008-09 and redshirted there, before playing at Big Bend. Prior to that, he enjoyed a prolific high school career. He earned a starting spot as a freshman at Narbonne High School in Los Angeles, becoming just the third freshman in school history to do so. He then played his sophomore season at Blue Ridge High School in St. George, Va., where he averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds per game and guided his team to a 28-5 record. He was ranked one of Virginia's top 10 sophomore players after helping his team finish second in the state tournament and earning third-team all-state honors.

 

Brumfield returned to his home state of California as a junior and earned third-team all-state distinction and second-team all-metro honors for Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Calif. He led Taft to a 24-6 record, while averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Brumfield completed his prep career at Genesis One Prep in Mendenhall, Miss., averaging 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game and helping Genesis One to a No. 7 national ranking among prep schools.

 

The native of Carson, Calif., is UH's fourth Southern California recruit, joining Jordan Coleman (Calabasas), Bobby Miles (Los Angeles) and Trevor Wiseman (Valencia). Meanwhile, all seven this year's recruits are underclassmen.

 

“I like the fact that Dominick has three years of eligibility,” Arnold said. “And is he's from Los Angeles, a place which will continue to be one of our main recruiting hubs.”
