Warriors East Bound To Play At Army

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team begins a long 13-day road trip which will take them to eight cities and four time zones and a pair of non-conference games. First up is Army, Saturday, Sept. 11, which will mark the farthest game east for the Warriors in school history. Kick-off is 12:00 p.m. ET (6:00 a.m. HT) at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports.
 
Hawai'i (0-1) is coming off a 49-36 season-opening loss to No. 14 USC last Thursday at Aloha Stadium. UH racked up 588 yards of total offense, including 459 through the air. Slot receiver Kealoha Pilares had five catches for a career-high 176 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Bryant Moniz completed 18-of-36 passes for 269 yards and one score before being knocked out of the game. Third string Shane Austin threw for 141 yards and two TDs.
 
The Black Knights (1-0) opened their season with a come-from-behind 31-27 victory at Eastern Michigan. Jared Hassin's 7-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds left capped an 8-play, 78-yard game-winning drive. Army's triple-option attack gained 308 yards on the ground, including three scores by Hassin (68 yards rushing) and another by Patrick Mealy, who finished with a team-high 81 yards rushing.
 
Army head coach Rich Ellerson graduated from UH in 1977 and served three stints on the coaching staff. Under head coach Dick Tomey, Ellerson was a graduate assistant in 1977 and a defensive assistant from 1981-83, coaching the defensive line, outside linebackers and special teams. He returned as defensive coordinator from 1987-91 under head coach Bob Wagner.
 
UH won the only meeting between the schools in 2003, a 59-23 rout at Aloha Stadium. In the win, the Warriors gained a school-record 741 yards of total offense, including 543 yards passing. Quarterback Timmy Chang threw for 356 yards and two scores while receiver Chad Owens set a school record with 14 catches for 168 yards and one TD. Running back John West scored three times, twice on the ground and once through the air.
 
Following the game, the Warriors will fly to Las Vegas where they will stay the week before heading to Boulder for the Colorado game. The entire trip will cover more than 11,000 air miles and five states.

Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KHLO in Hilo, KKON in Kona.
