Women’s Soccer Blanked By Washington State

Box Score

HONOLULU – The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Washington State in the Outrigger Hotels Soccer Classic Friday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 2-6 overall with their third straight loss.

Washington State (3-6) scored a pair of goals to take a 2-0 lead into the break, then cruised to victory in the second half. The Cougars were led by a two-goal performance by Emma Stolz. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine—seeing their first action in 11 days and hosting their first home match in nearly three weeks—couldn't find a rhythm and were shutout for the second straight time.

Neither team generated a single shot in the first 22 minutes of the match, but that all changed when Washington State struck with a pair of goals in a 35-second span. Mallory Fox took a hard strike, which was saved by UH goalkeeper Kanani Taaca. But Stolz put back the rebound for the first score of the match in the 23rd minute.

Just 35 seconds later Washington State made it, 2-0. Shannon McFadden put the ball over the top of the UH defense where Eileen Maes ran it down and chipped the ball over the outstretched arm of Taaca.

After the break, Stolz finished off the scoring when she put home her second goal of the evening in the 54th minute. The Cougars out-shot UH, 9-6, with five of their six shots in the first half on goal.

Washington State will take on Pepperdine on Saturday night in the second night of tournament action. The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the tournament with a meeting versus Pepperdine on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
