Women’s Soccer Plays Pacific To Scoreless Draw

Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team got out of the loss column after battling Pacific to a 0-0 tie in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Stagg Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine moved to 2-8-1 and snapped a five-match losing streak.

Three days after suffering the worst loss in program history and surrendering a record nine goals in a loss at No. 2 Stanford, the Rainbow Wahine came back strong against Pacific and posted its second shutout of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Kanani Taaca played a key role in the shutout, recording a career-high nine saves while playing the full 110 minutes.

The Tigers (3-4-3) out-shot UH 17-6, including 13-3 after halftime, but failed to net a goal. It was the second meeting of the year between the teams. Pacific defeated UH, 1-0, in Honolulu on Aug. 20 in the season opener for both teams.

Meanwhile, UH continued to struggle offensively and has been held scoreless in its last five matches. The Rainbow Wahine have not scored since the first half of its match at California on Sept. 5, a span of more than 517 minutes.

The Rainbow Wahine now return home to open up Western Athletic Conference play when they host Boise State (Oct. 1) and Idaho (Oct. 3) at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Kickoff for the match against the Broncos is 7:00 p.m.
