HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball head coach, Bob Coolen released his 2011 schedule today. Hawai'i, the defending Western Athletic conference regular season and tournament champions, is coming off its first appearance in the Women's College World Series. The 'Bows will once again play in six non-conference tournaments—four at home and two on the road before they start defense of their conference crowns.

The Rainbow Wahine will face 10 teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament last year, including four Super Regional teams—BYU, California, Oklahoma, and Oregon.

Hawai'i opens the season hosting the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic (Feb. 10-12)  which features Texas State, Southern Utah, and fellow Stanford Regional team, UC Davis. The 'Bows will also play a single game against Texas State on Monday, Feb. 14 at 5:00 p.m.

The 'Bows then hit the road for a pair of tournaments. First up is UNLV's Louisville-Slugger Desert Classic (Feb. 18-20) where UH will face Utah, Long Beach State, Oregon, Stanford and CS Northridge. After a mid-week doubleheader at UC Riverside (Feb. 22), Hawai'i will then head to the Cathedral City Classic (Feb. 24-26) hosted by Oregon State. The 'Bows will battle four teams that all advanced to the post-season last year—Oklahoma, Nebraska, Syracuse, and Virginia.

UH then returns home for a month-long homestand during which they host three tourneys before starting their WAC season. The Bank of Hawaii Invitational is slated for March 4-6, with Weber State, South Dakota and St. Bonaventure, followed by the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament (Mar. 11-13) with Miami (Ohio), Longwood and South Dakota (who is staying for two tournaments in a row). Hawai'i then closes out their non-conference tourneys with the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament (Mar. 16-19), which features Iona, Cleveland State, BYU, and California.

In conference, the 'Bows will host four, three-game series against Utah State (Mar. 25-26), Nevada (Apr. 8-9), Boise State (Apr. 22-23) and New Mexico State (Apr. 29-30). Hawai'i will have road conference series this season at Fresno State (Apr. 1-2), Louisiana Tech (Apr. 15-16) and will finish their regular season at San Jose State (May 6-7). The WAC Championship tournament will be held in Fresno, Calif. this season from May 11-14.

Hawai'i returns 16 letterwinners and five starters from last year's 2010 squad that finished ranked seventh in both national polls and advanced to the program's first Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. Leading the 'Bows are a pair of All-Americans—third baseman, Melissa Gonzalez and centerfielder Kelly Majam along with three All-West Region players, shortstop Jessica Iwata, pitcher Stephanie Ricketts, and designated player, Jenna Rodriguez.
