HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team kicked off its season with the first day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex.

 

The Rainbow Wahine hosted local schools Chaminade and Hawai'i Pacific with both singles and doubles competition. Eight Rainbow Wahine players were in action on the day as UH went 5-3 in singles and 3-2 in doubles.

 

Highlighting the doubles competition was a tough 8-6 victory by the duo Barbara Pinterova and Katarina Poljakova over Zora Vlckova and Carrie Shuller of Hawaii Pacific. Meanwhile, UH picked up five wins in singles competition with four players—Dasha Lagmay, Alyssa Nafarrete, Aglae Van den Bergh and Natasha Zorec—winning in straight sets.

 

The three-day tournament continues Friday, 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
