Greg McMackin's Weekly Press Conference

Senior running back Alex Green is coming off a 172-yard, four-touchdown performance.
HONOLULU – University of Hawai`i Warrior football head coach Greg McMackin conducted his weekly press conference Monday, recapping the team's road win over Utah State and looking ahead to this week's homecoming game versus Idaho.

On the road win at Utah State…
Number one I'm really proud of the guys. Winning is tough, but winning on the road is even tougher. I thought our guys handled the trip. They handled the rain and the cold they stayed focused and played an entire ball game, a good second half. So I'm really happy with the win.

On the turning point of the game…
I thought the key to the ball game (was when) we called a blocked punt and the guy muffed the catch and John Hardy hit him and then our slash guy David Graves was right there and took it in for a touchdown. I thought that was the turning point of the game. First half was pretty even. I think we were having our way, but we gave a couple touchdowns away. Then the second half I thought we hit offensively, defensively I thought we were going full speed.

On running back Alex Green's performance…
Big time. Big time playing by Alex Green. He got WAC Player of the Week and he should have…he's just an outstanding running back.

On junior linebacker and WAC Defensive Player of the Week Corey Paredes
I haven't seen all the players, but he's playing as well as anyone in the WAC. Those two interceptions set up touchdowns, and one of them he jumped higher than I think he thinks he can jump. The guy was a 6'7 tight end and he was right up with his hands. He admits he doesn't have that hop, but he got up and got it and it set up a touchdown. He was all over the field.

On this week's game versus Idaho…
We've all been talking about how we've been taking it one game at a time. This is a game we have to play a little better than we played last week and continue to improve. This is really a big game for us because this is what we've been working for.

Their offense is really moving the football against everybody. Coach (Rob) Akey, I think he's an outstanding coach. So I know they'll be ready to play us. I know we had a bad experience in Moscow last year. We've got to be ready for this ball game.
