Women’s Soccer Falls To Nevada In Double Overtime

RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 double-overtime loss to Nevada in a Western Athletic Conference match Friday night at Mackay Stadium Stadium. Despite the loss the Rainbow Wahine remain in the hunt for the sixth and final berth for next week's WAC Tournament.

Ellie Stott scored both Wolf Pack (7-9-3, 2-5-1 WAC) goals, including the game winner with less than one minute left in double-overtime.  Stott's also scored off a header on a Danielle Green corner kick in the 34th minute. Brittani Lum's successful conversion of a free kick in the 78th minute equalized the match, 1-1, for UH. It was the second straight week that Lum scored off a free kick.

UH (3-13-3, 1-4-2), however, could not hold on as Stott scored at the 109:07 mark. The Rainbow Wahine have now lost in last five trips to Reno and have not won there since 2003.

With the loss, UH dropped to eighth place in the WAC standings with six points, right behind sixth-place Fresno State (eight points) and seventh-place Nevada (seven points). Still, the Rainbow Wahine can still qualify for the WAC Tournament. Nevada, having closed out their regular-season and trailing Fresno State, has been eliminated from contention.

UH, meanwhile, is in a must-win situation entering its regular-season finale at Utah State on Sunday. The Rainbow Wahine can qualify for the WAC Tournament with a win over the Aggies, coupled with a Bulldog loss at Idaho on Sunday. Any other scenario would eliminate UH. The Rainbow Wahine would win a tie-breaker with Bulldogs, who they defeated earlier this season.

The Rainbow Wahine play their regular season finale at Utah State on Sunday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. MT.
