TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Kolten Wong was named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America third team, as selected by the writers of
Collegiate Baseball, Monday.
Wong, the 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year, finished his first collegiate season with a .341 batting average, 11 home runs, 21 doubles, 52 RBI, 46 runs and 11 stolen bases. He was named a freshman All-American by five different publications, also earning second team ABCA all-region and first team all-WAC honors. The Hilo, Hawai'i, native also played on the USA Baseball national team this past summer.
The publication also came out with their preseason top 40 poll with UH listed on the “Others Receiving Votes” section. Five teams on UH's schedule are in the top 40, including No. 10 Oregon State, the team Hawai'i opens the season with on Feb. 19. Also in the poll are No. 4 Cal State Fullerton, No. 24 San Diego, No. 26 Stanford and No. 33 Fresno State.
