Rainbow Wahine Fall To No. 6 Florida State 83-39 To Close Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine basketball team (4-7) fell to the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles (11-1) 83-39 in the third-place game of the Duel in the Desert at Cox Arena Monday.
 
Breanna Arbuckle led the way for UH with nine points and nine rebounds. Rebecca Dew added five points and eight boards while Keisha Kanekoa posted seven points and three rebounds.
 
The two teams traded buckets early on with the Seminoles holding a slight 6-5 edge early. But Florida State came up with an 11-0 run, getting it to 17-5. FSU got it as high as 30-11 before a 7-0 Rainbow Wahine run got it to 30-18. The two teams traded baskets to get it to 37-24 with just over three minutes left in the half. The UH posts did a great job on the boards as Arbuckle and Dew contributed eight and seven rebounds, respectively, in the half.
 
But the Seminoles got it rolling in the second half. Florida State scored the first 13 points to get their lead up to 50-24. After a layup by Allie Patterson, the Seminoles added nine more points to run it up to 59-26.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return home to face Kent State twice in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Showdown at the Stan Sheriff Center on Dec. 29 and 30, both starting at 7 p.m.
