Paul Campbel and Adhar Mayen celebrate against Boise St. 2010
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Warrior basketball team picked up it first Western Athletic Conference win of the year with a 76-68 decision over Boise State Monday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH improved to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the WAC.

UH squandered a 14 point lead in the first half and trailed by one at the break, but shot 55 percent in the second half to claim the victory. The win ended a five-game series skid against Boise State (9-6, 0-2 WAC) as UH beat the Broncos for the first time since the 2006-07 season. The Broncos had won in their last two visits to Honolulu.

Roderick Flemings led four Rainbow Warriors in double figures with 20 points, including 14 second-half points.  Paul Campbell fell just short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds and scored in double figures for the third straight game. Hiram Thompson finished with 15 points, while Adhar Mayen tied his career high with 13 points. UH won despite playing without leading scorer Dwain Williams (14.8 ppg) who was sidelined for the game.

Boise State made just 2 of its first 17 shots to start the game as UH build a double-digit lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and led by 14 points, 21-7, with nine minutes remaining in the half. But Boise State stormed back with and a 21-6 run, starting with 12 unanswered points, to eventually take and 28-27 lead into the locker room.

UH, however, wouldn't falter and Thompson's 3-pointer four minutes into the second half gave UH a 37-34 edge and a lead they would not relinquish. Boise State's full court press made for some anxious moments late in the game, but the Broncos could get no closer than four points. UH sealed the game on the free throw line where they tallied 10 of their final 12 points, including 8-of-8 shooting from reserve guard Jeremy Lay.

After playing nine straight home games the 'Bows now head to the Mainland for a pair of WAC road games beginning with a meeting against Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 9. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
