Men’s Basketball Begins Three-Game WAC Homestand This Week

Game Notes
Paul Campbel gets past Idaho 2010

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team begins a three-game Western Athletic Conference homestand by hosting San Jose State, Sunday, Jan. 17. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors (8-9, 1-3 WAC) dropped both games of their first WAC road trip of the season last week, falling at Fresno State, 78-64, and at Utah State, 98-54, the latter of which set the school record for largest margin of defeat in a conference game. In both games, the 'Bows surrendered big first-half runs which forced them to play catch-up in the second half. In the FSU game, the Bulldogs ended the half with a 19-5 run for an 18-point halftime lead. Two nights later, the Aggies used runs of 12-0 and 26-8 to take a 54-26 halftime lead.

The Spartans (8-7, 1-2) lost both WAC games last week at Fresno State, 80-70, and at Nevada, 96-67. Prior to the UH game, SJSU will host Boise State on Thursday. The Spartans are 3-6 in road games this season

UH is 1-3 to start WAC play for the third time in the last six seasons. The Spartans swept the season series a year ago, which snapped an 11-game win streak by Hawai'i in the series. SJSU won 73-61 at the Stan Sheriff Center and 61-59 in San Jose, Calif.

Up Next: UH continues its three-game homestand next week by hosting New Mexico State, Thursday, Jan. 21 and Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Jan. 23.
