UH Track Opens 2010 Indoor Season With UW Indoor Preview

The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team will open the 2010 season by competing in the University of Washington's Indoor Preview, Saturday, Jan. 16, at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. The Rainbow Wahine will send a contingent of 16 athletes, who will compete in 12 events and two relays.
 
The UW Indoor Preview is one of five mainland competitions for the Rainbow Wahine this season. The indoor season runs through March and culminates with the NCAA Championships, March 12-13.

Recapping the 2009 Indoor Season: The Rainbow Wahine capped the 2009 indoor season by sending two athletes - Annett Wichmann and Amber Kaufman - to the NCAA Championships. Competing in her first indoor championship, Kaufman placed sixth in the high jump while Wichmann took seventh in the pentathlon. Both earned All-America honors and scored team points for UH at the national indoor meet. The Rainbow Wahine placed fifth at the WAC Championships, while Wichmann was named the meet's co-Outstanding Field Performer. The Jena, Germany native won the gold medal in the pentathlon for the third straight year and also captured bronze in the triple jump. Kaufman led a UH sweep in the high jump winning her first WAC indoor gold. Sarah Saddleton won silver while Emily Sheppard added a bronze along with a silver in the triple jump.
