Nine Warriors Selected To WAC’s All-Decade Football Team

DENVER – The University of Hawai'i was well-represented on the Western Athletic Conference's All-Decade Football team, which was selected by fans through online voting. More than 1,500 fans participated and voted on players that had been on at least two all-WAC teams from 2000 through 2009.

Nine Warriors were selected to the 29-member team, which tied with Boise State for most picks from one school. Fresno State had five players mentioned.

Five Warriors were named to the All-Decade offensive team, led by quarterback Colt Brennan. During his career, Brennan was a two-time WAC offensive player of the year and finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He also broke or tied 31 NCAA records during his three-year career. One of his main receivers, Davone Bess, currently of the Miami Dolphins, was also selected to the team along with Ashley Lelie, who holds the school's single-season receiving yards record (1,713) in 2001. In three seasons at UH, Bess holds school career records for receptions (293) and touchdowns (41).

A pair of offensive lineman were also selected to the offensive team. Guard Samson Satele was a four-time all-WAC recipient from 2003-06, while center John Estes became the fifth UH player to earn first-team all-WAC honors three times. This past season, Estes was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top center.

On the defensive side of the ball, end Travis LaBoy and linebackers Pisa Tinoisamoa and Solomon Elimimian made the list. LaBoy was a two-time all-WAC selection and defensive player of the year in 2003. Tinoisamoa, a seven-year NFL veteran and currently of the Chicago Bears, earned all-WAC honors twice in 2001 and 2002. Elimimian is the school's career tackles leader (434) and co-defensive player of the year in 2008.

Punter Mat McBriar, currently of the Dallas Cowboys, earned first-team all-WAC honors twice in 2001 and 2002.

Former Boise State offensive lineman Ryan Clady was the leading vote-getter after being named to 1,007 ballots.  On defense, the leading vote-getter was Boise State linebacker Korey Hall with 822 votes
