HONOLULU - The No. 41 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team looked sharp in its first regular-season dual match of the season, cruising past Saint Mary's, 6-1, Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors, NCAA Tournament participants the last two seasons, were dominant in their opener, winning all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to secure the victory.
The Rainbow Warrior got off to a quick start by taking the doubles points on the strength of a sweep.
Daniel Llarenas and
Craig Faulk kick started the day with an 8-5 win over Andrea Zannoni and Mike Luck at the No. 3 court.
In singles action, UH picked up five victories, all in straight sets—and missed a sixth victory with a narrow loss in a super tie-breaker. UH's top player, junior
Dennis Lajola led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lucas Tirelli, while senior
Andreas Weber was just as impressive on the No. 2 court with a 6-0, 6-1 sweep of Zannoni.

Leo Rosenberg and Llarenas were also victorious on courts 3, 4 and 6, respectively. Saint Mary's lone point came when Youssef El Bouzkouri squeezed past
Philipp Eberhard 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (2) at the No. 5 position.
The Rainbow Warriors will play the second of three straight home matches when they host Nevada in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Sunday, Jan. 17. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
