Women’s Basketball’s Late Rally Falls Short Against Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai'i rallied late against Louisiana Tech on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Techsters pulled away down the stretch for a 75-62 victory at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 8-11 overall and 2-4 in Western Athletic Conference play. Louisiana Tech improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

UH plays its final game of its two-game road trip against Boise State on Saturday, Jan. 23 in Boise, Idaho at 7 p.m. MT (4 p.m. HT).

On Thursday night, UH turned up the defensive effort in the second half, holding Louisiana Tech to 33.3 percent shooting, cutting the lead to 65-55 with 6:11 left in the game. The Rainbow Wahine couldn't cut into the lead after that.

Junior Allie Patterson scored a game-high 18 points coming off the bench and senior Dita Liepkalne had 15 points, including three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Rebecca Dew had 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting and Breanna Arbuckle had seven points and six rebounds.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine started out strong offensively, but then went scoreless for over eight minutes, as the Lady Techsters built their halftime lead to 44-26.

UH was led by Liepkalne in the first half, scoring eight points, including two 3-pointers. Leilani Galdones had five points and Keisha Kanekoa, Dew and Patterson each scored four points.

The Rainbow Wahine had seven steals as a team, but the Lady Techsters shot 50 percent (17-for-34) from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. UH shot 36.7 percent (11-for-30), but only got to the free throw line four times, making one.
