HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i women's golf senior
Erin Matsuoka was honored last Friday, Jan. 15, at the 2
nd Annual Hawai'i Golf Ho'olaule'a Awards. All of golf's associated allies came together to recognize over 30 of Hawai'i's top male and female athletes and industry leaders for their accomplishments in 2009.
Matsuoka was honored by the Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association as the Outstanding Woman Golfer.
“I'm honored to be the recipient of the HSWGA's Outstanding Golfer,” Matsuoka said. “I want to thank the HSWGA for providing all the great events to play in each year which gave me the experience I needed in order to succeed. I also want to thank my parents and the University of Hawai'i for their support through the years.”
Matsuoka, a 2006 graduate of Punahou School in Honolulu, O'ahu, has been an important part of the Rainbow Wahine squad since joining in her freshman year. Thus far, she has competed in 15 collegiate tournaments, earning an 81.6 strokes per round average. Her best tournament finish, a tie for 30th place, came in her freshman year at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Last season, Matsuoka competed in all eight tournaments, earning 80.5 average and shooting a career-low round of 74 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. In the most recent fall season, she competed in two tournaments, the Giustina Memorial Classic and the Stanford Intercollegiate.
