Women’s Basketball Falls In Hard Fought Game Against Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team led for most of the second half, until Boise State made a late run, beating the Rainbow Wahine 73-64 on Saturday night at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 8-12 on the season and 2-5 in Western Athletic Conference play with the loss. Boise State improved to 13-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

After taking the lead before the first half ended, UH kept the momentum for the start of the second half, taking an eight-point lead midway through the second half. Boise State came on strong, taking over the lead with just over six minutes remaining in the game.

Sophomore Breanna Arbuckle scored a game-high 16 points and added five rebounds and senior Dita Liepkalne had 13 points and five rebounds.

Junior Keisha Kanekoa had nine points and seven rebounds, Rebecca Dew had eight points, all in the second half, and Allie Patterson had six points off the bench.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine played excellent defense, holding the Broncos to 23.5 percent shooting from the field and 1-for-12 shooting from behind the arc, leading to a 30-26 halftime lead.

UH connected on 5-of-12 3-pointers, including back-to-back 3-pointers from Leilani Galdones and Kanekoa to end the first half, giving the Rainbow Wahine a four-point lead.

Liepkalne led the Rainbow Wahine with eight points in the first half, including two 3-pointers and Arbuckle had seven points.

UH returns to the islands for three-straight home games, beginning with San Jose State on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
