Men's Basketball Hits The Road For Pair Of WAC Games

Game Notes

Petras Balocka looks to score
The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team seeks its first road win of the year when it heads to the mainland for pair of games, beginning with a contest at San Jose State, Thursday, Jan. 28. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) at the Event Center.

The Rainbow Warriors (9-11, 2-5 WAC), who are in seventh place in the Western Athletic Conference standings, enter a crucial stretch in which they will play four of their next five games on the road. UH is winless in three road games so far this year, with all three losses coming in double digits. The 'Bows are coming off a three-game homestand in which they went 1-2.

UH started that homestand with a thrilling 68-67 win over San Jose State on Jan. 17. Just 11 days later the 'Bows and Spartans will face off in a rematch with the teams going in different directions. After its win over the Spartans the Rainbow Warriors suffered a pair of tight losses to WAC front-runners New Mexico State (69-71) and Louisiana Tech (60-65). The Spartans meanwhile, defeated the same two teams at home last week. Adrian Oliver torched Louisiana Tech for 39 points to snap the Bulldogs 10-game win streak and two nights later the Spartans scored 61 second-half points to defeat New Mexico State, 93-84.

UH leads the overall series 23-10 and is 8-7 all-time in San Jose. Following its meeting with the Spartans, Hawai`i heads to Nevada (12-8, 4-3 WAC) for a nationally televised game on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
