ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Led by All-American
Amber Kaufman, the University of Hawai'i women's track and field team swept the top three spots in the high jump competition at the Lobo Challenge Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Kaufman jumped 6-3.25 (1.91m) to easily win the event over teammates
Samantha Balentine (5-6/1.68m) and
Sarah Saddleton (5-6/1.68m). The height surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and is tied for the highest in the country this season.
Two weeks ago, the San Jose, Calif., native won the high jump at the UW Preview with a jump of 6-1.5 (1.87m).
“She nearly cleared 1.94m and was easily 3-4 inches above the bar but knocked it off with her calf,” UH head coach
Carmyn James said. “She's starting to jump smoother and its all coming together nicely for her.”
In the weight throw event, sophomore
Emma MacCorquodale smashed her personal best with a mark of 53-11.25 (16.44m) to capture first place over UNLV's Amanda Bingson (53-9.25/16.39m).
The Rainbow Wahine will next participate in the New Mexico Invitational, Saturday.
