Women's Water Polo Concludes Northern California Invitational 4-0

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 3 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team took two more games Sunday at the Northern California Invitational blowing out No. 14 UC Davis, 17-4 and Cal State East Bay, 14-6. The Rainbow Wahine are now 4-0 overall. 

Mirrored to Friday's events, UH closed off the invitational with another set of back-to-back matches, the first against UC Davis. The Rainbow Wahine kept the Aggies at bay with a 9-0 run, giving them a comfortable lead at halftime.

In the second half, UC Davis was able to drive in four goals but couldn't keep up with UH. The Rainbow Wahine scored five goals in the third and three more in the final quarter leading them to a landslide 17-4 victory.

Senior Ryan Hanson-Swaner led the team with four goals, while junior Carmen Eggens added three more for UH. 

After sliding past the Aggies, the Rainbow Wahine started strong against Cal State East Bay in the first quarter with a 3-0 run and continued to outscore the Pioneers 3-1 in the second. UH held a comfortable 6-1 lead at halftime.

The Rainbow Wahine dominated the third quarter, scoring six points over the Pioneers while holding them to one goal. CSUEB picked it up in the final quarter, outscoring UH 4-2 but were unable to scramble back. The Rainbow Wahine concluded the invitational with a 14-6 victory.

Leading UH, sophomore transfer Jana Liessman scored her first four career goals. Sophomore Monika Eggens also added three of the team's 14 points. 

UH will next face No. 5 California, Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) in Berkeley, Calif. for its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match of the season.
