Kaufman Wins Second WAC Weekly Award in Three Weeks

DENVER – University of Hawai'i's Amber Kaufman was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of January 25-31, after her performance at the Lobo Challenge in Albuquerque, N. M. over the weekend.

Kaufman, a senior from San Jose, Calif. (Branham HS), won the high jump competition with an NCAA Automatic qualifying standard of 6-3.25 (1.91m). Kaufman's mark is tied for first in the nation and is also a new school record, breaking the record she previously set two weeks ago at the UW Indoor Preview after a jump of 6-1.5 (1.87m).

For Kaufman, the award marks her fifth career WAC Athlete of the Week, her second this season after receiving the honor just two weeks ago.

Courtney Schultz, a freshman from Las Cruces, N. M. (Cloudcroft HS), received the WAC's track Athlete of the Week award. Schultz won the 3,000-meters at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N. M., Jan. 30. She posted a time of 10:01.98, securing the top spot in the WAC so far this season. With this time, Schultz also breezed to the top of the New Mexico State all-time records list with a result nearly five seconds faster than the previous record holder and NM State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Rachael Cuellar.
