STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 40 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team lost its second match of the year with 6-1 setback to No. 9 Stanford Saturday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 5-2 on the year with both losses coming against top ten squads.
A week after falling to No. 4 UCLA on the road, the Rainbow Warriors again fell short against one of the elite programs in the nation. The Cardinal (4-0) won five of singles matchups and swept UH in doubles competition.
UH's lone point came at the No. 4 court where
Leo Rosenberg took down Richard Wire 6-2, 6-2. Rosenberg improved his singles record to a perfect 6-0 in dual matches this season. Meanwhile
Dennis Lajola and
Andreas Weber lost their first singles matches of the year, both to ranked opponents. Lajola lost to No. 54 Bradley Klahn 6-4, 6-3, while Weber lost to No. 37 Alex Clayton 6-4, 6-4.
UH will next face its fourth ranked squad in the last five matches when it plays at No. 37 California Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1:00 p.m. PT (11:00 HT).
