BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 40 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team concluded its five-match California road trip with a 6-1 loss to No. 35 California Sunday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 5-3 on the year finished 2-3 on the trip with all three losses coming to ranked opponents.
Leo Rosenberg continued his stellar play for the Rainbow Warriors by claiming the team's only point of the day. The sophomore took out No. 98-ranked Bozhidar Katsarov, 6-2, 6-2 on the No. 4 court and kept his singles record at an unblemished 7-0 in dual matches.
UH, however, couldn't generate much outside of Rosenberg. The Bears claimed the doubles point as Cal's No. 49-ranked tandem of sophomore Nick Andrews and freshman Christoffer Konigsfeldt teamed up to defeat Rosenberg and
Jeremy Tweedt, 8-4, at court two. Just moments later Bozhidar Katsarov and McLachlan took an 8-6 win over
Dennis Lajola and
Daniel Llarenas at court three to give the Bears the point.
Cal won five of singles competition, though UH did put up fights on courts No. 2 and No. 6.
Andreas Weber lost a tough three-set match to No. 106 Christoffer Konigsfeldt 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, while
Daniel Llarenas lost to Bijan Hejazi 6-1, 4-6, 6-2
The Rainbow Warriors will now have nearly a month off before traveling on the road to Las Vegas, Nev., for four non-conference matches, starting with a meeting with UNLV on March. 5.
