Mike Sealy Accepts Head Coaching Position At UCLA

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i associate coach Mike Sealy has accepted the position of head women's volleyball coach at UCLA, leaving the Rainbow Wahine volleyball program after four years on staff.

The former UCLA assistant coach and men's volleyball standout returns to his alma mater as only the second head women's volleyball coach in program history. Sealy replaces former head coach Andy Banachowski, the NCAA Division I all-time wins leader. Banachowski retired in January after 43 seasons at UCLA.

“Mike has been a tremendous asset to our program over the last four years,” Head Coach Dave Shoji said. “His knowledge has helped improve each player and his tactical expertise has made us a better team. He has a great volleyball mind and he will lead UCLA to great success. We are sorry to lose him, but we wish him all the best in this new endeavor.”

While at UH, Sealy helped the Rainbow Wahine reach the Final Four in 2009 and two Regional Finals in the NCAA Tournament. The Rainbow Wahine won four straight WAC championships and four WAC Tournament titles while Sealy was on staff.

“I would like to first and foremost thank Dave for giving me the opportunity to coach at the University of Hawai'i,” Sealy said. “Without the experience I've gained at UH, I would not be in a position to be able to move on to head coaching.

“This has been an amazing chapter in my life and I am very saddened for it to come to a close for now. Hawai'i will always be a home for me and I look forward to any and every opportunity to come back.”

Over four years, Sealy has assisted with the development of four AVCA All-Americans, three WAC Player of the Years and two WAC Freshmen of the Year.

Sealy was in charge of scouting, breaking down film, recruiting and providing technical training in practices at UH.
