Women’s Basketball Drops First Game Of Road Trip Against Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team opened its three-game road trip with a 74-59 loss against Idaho on Saturday afternoon at the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow, Idaho.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 9-15 overall and 3-8 in Western Athletic Conference play with the loss, while Idaho improves to 6-17 overall and 4-6 in conference action.

UH had another strong shooting percentage Saturday, going 24-for-52 (46.2 percent) from the field and 9-for-19 from 3-point range.

Junior Leilani Galdones led the Rainbow Wahine with 19 points, including going 5-for-9 from 3-point range.

Junior Keisha Kanekoa had 10 points and junior Julita Bungaite added nine points off the bench. Dita Liepkalne had six points and Breanna Arbuckle added five points and five rebounds.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine shot 45.5 percent from the field and went 4-for-8 from 3-point range, but trailed the Vandals 29-25 at the break.

UH was led by Galdones, who had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, while Kanekoa and Bungaite each had four points. The Rainbow Wahine played solid defense, holding the Vandals to 31.3 percent shooting, including 2-for-14 from 3-point range in the opening half.

The Rainbow Wahine play the second game of their three-game road trip Monday, Feb. 15 against Nevada in Reno at 7 p.m. PT. UH wraps up the road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 17 against San Jose State at 7 p.m. PT.
