HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team won its alumni game 6-0 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.
David Freitas led the 'Bows at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles and one RBI. Piikea Kitamura added two RBI, a run and a triple.
Collin Bennett also tripled, scoring a run with one RBI.
Nate Klein picked up the victory, allowing just two hits in 6.0 innings pitched.
The alumni looked to get on the board first as Matt Inouye doubled to left in the second inning. After a wild pitch moved Inouye to third, and Evan Zimny drew a walk, the alumni had a failed double steal attempt as
Greg Garcia gunned Inouye out at the plate.
The Rainbows then took advantage in the bottom of the inning. Freitas doubled in a run before scoring on a triple by Bennett, making it 2-0.
Kevin Macdonald later sacrificed in Garcia in the third to get it to 3-0.
Hawai'i then broke it open in the fourth as Kitamura hit a two-run triple to right, scoring Freitas and Bennett. Kitamura later came around to score on a wild pitch, making it 6-0.
UH will officially open the 2010 season on Friday, Feb. 19, hosting No. 10 Oregon State at 6:35 p.m., to start a four-game series with the Beavers.
