Women’s Basketball Suffers Tough Road Loss Against San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team suffered a tough road loss against San Jose State, 68-61 on Wednesday night at the Events Center in San Jose, Calif., ending its three-game road trip.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 9-17 overall and 3-10 in Western Athletic Conference play, just one game ahead of San Jose State in the win column. San Jose State improved to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

UH stays one game ahead of San Jose State, as the top-eight teams in the conference qualify for the WAC Tournament. The Rainbow Wahine have three conference games remaining.

On Wednesday night, UH was led offensively by Keisha Kanekoa, who scored a season-high 22 points, on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Kanekoa also added five rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Briauna Linton scored 10 points, including nine in the second half, and Breanna Arbuckle added 10 points and four rebounds.

In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine shot 45.8 percent from the field, but had 11 turnovers, as the Spartans led 32-29 at the break.

Kanekoa led the way offensively, scoring nine points on 4-of-5 shooting. Arbuckle and Allie Patterson each had seven points in the half and Arbuckle added two blocks.

The Rainbow Wahine return to the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday, as they host Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. The game will be UH's Pink Zone game, in support of breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
