HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team fell to the No. 10 Oregon State Beavers 10-6 in front of a crowd of 4,109 in the season-opener at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. #Blair Walters$ took the loss for UH in relief, allowing two unearned runs. Kraig Sitton got the win for the Beavers.
The Rainbows got it going early in the first inning, scoring two runs, driven in by
Kolten Wong and Macdonald, giving UH the 2-0 edge.
Nate Klein kept that Hawai'i lead until the third inning, allowing three unearned runs to allow OSU to take a 3-2 lead.
Then Macdonald answered with the big blast in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a grand slam to straight-away centerfield, putting the 'Bows ahead 6-3.
Oregon State whittled away at the deficit, scoring a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, tying the score at 6-6. The Beavers then went ahead in the eighth, benefiting from a big UH error to score two more unearned runs to put OSU ahead 8-6.
OSU then put it away in the top of the ninth as Stefan Romero hit a two run blast to left, extending the lead to 10-6.
The two teams continue the series tomorrow, playing at 1:05 p.m. They will again play at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, before closing out the series with a 5:05 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 22.
