SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team began its four-match road trip through Northern California with a 6-1 loss to San Francisco Monday afternoon at Golden Gate Park. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 1-6 on the season with their fourth straight road loss.
The day started off well for the Rainbow Wahine who claimed the first point of the match by winning two of three in doubles. The UH duo of
Barbara Pinterova and
Alyssa Nafarrete defeated Julia Wartenburger and Yurie Hashiguchi, 8-5, on court no. 2, while
Aglae Van den Bergh teamed up with
Natasha Zorec to take down Cecilia Gratian and Alana McMahon, 8-6, on court no. 3
However, things would turn south for the 'Bows in singles. The Dons (3-5) swept all six courts with five of those matches ending in straight sets.
Katarina Poljakova was the lone Rainbow Wahine to extend her match to three sets, before falling to Gratian 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on court no. 3. Zorec also battled hard for UH on court no. 4, but would fall short, 7-5, 7-5, to Melinda Akerbrant.
The Rainbow Wahine continue their trip through Northern California with a match at No. 59 Sacramento State on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. PT (12:30 p.m. HT).
