Box Score

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (1-3) fell to the No. 10 Oregon State Beavers (3-1) 5-0 in front of a crowd of 2,428 in the series finale at Les Murakami Stadium Monday. Sam Spangler pitched well, allowing one run while striking out seven in 4.2 innings, but took the loss for UH. Matt Boyd pitched 5.0 shutout innings of relief to get the win for OSU.

Breland Almadova came out with a 2-for-3 game while Pi'ikea Kitamura, Collin Bennett and Jeffrey Van Doornum all had hits for the Rainbows.

Hawai'i had a grand opportunity to get on the board early, loading the bases in the bottom of the first. But OSU got out of the inning unscathed, then put up the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second.

The Rainbows had opportunities in the next few innings but hit into three straight inning-ending double plays in the third, fourth and fifth innings, keeping the Beavers ahead 1-0.

Oregon State then added some insurance runs to their total in top of the sixth, rallying with two outs for two runs to extend their lead to 3-0.

The Beavers later put up two more runs in the top of the seventh, making the final 5-0.

Hawai'i will next host No. 25 Oregon for a four-game series starting Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6:35 p.m.
