Pentathlon Results
NAMPA, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team is in second place after the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Thursday at Idaho Center and Jackson Track.
The Rainbow Wahine scored seven team points in the pentathlon with
Samantha Balentine and
Natalija Waldhuber each placing in the top eight. Balentine, a freshman from Lodi, Calif., finished with fourth after completing the five disciplines with 3,468 points, while Waldhuber, a sophomore from Moribor, Slovenia, was seventh with 3,248 points.
Also among the 19 pentathlon competitors for the Rainbow Wahine were freshman Cecelia Durocher (2,847 pts., 13
th) and freshman
Sarah Rutsch (2,727 pts., 16
th).
Idaho leads the team standings with 22 points with gold, silver, and fifth place finish in the pentathlon. Ulrike Hartz took top honors with 3,784 points followed by teammate Lindsay Goodman with 3,545 points.
Balentine won the pentathlon's high jump competition after clearing 5-7.25 (1.71m). She also ran a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.40 seconds and won her heat and placed second overall with a blistering time of 2:27.51 in the 800-meter.
Waldhuber also ran a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.49 seconds, placed fifth in the shot put (33-4.75/10.18m) and seventh in the 800-meters (2:32.29).
The WAC Championships continue on Friday, the first full-day of competition.
