Rainbow Baseball Opens Series With 4-3 Win Over No. 25 Oregon

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (2-3) defeated the No. 25 Oregon Ducks (3-2) 4-3 in front of a crowd of 2,223 at Les Murakami Stadium Thursday. Nate Klein (1-0) got the win, allowing three runs in 6.0 innings pitched. Tyler Anderson (1-1) took the loss for the Ducks while Lenny Linsky picked up his first save of the season.
 
Jeffrey Van Doornum led the way for the 'Bows, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Collin Bennett added a 1-for-4 game with one RBI and one run while Kevin Macdonald was 1-for-4 with a run.
 
Hawai'i got on the board early, scoring three in the first inning. The Rainbows batted around with Bennett driving in a run before UH put up two more, making it 3-0.
 
The Ducks pulled back within a run, plating two in the third, getting it to 3-2.
 
Van Doornum blasted a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth, extending UH's lead to 4-2.
 
Oregon put up another run in the top of the seventh, chasing Klein out of the game, while pulling it back to 4-3.
 
Linsky then came into the game in the eighth inning, posting two perfect innings to preserve the one-run victory.
 
The two teams continue the series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. It will then conclude with games at 1:05 p.m. on both Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28.
