Men's Basketball Heads To Boise State For Crucial WAC Showdown

Game Notes

Adhar Mayen drives against Bosie St. 2010
BOISE, Idaho—A bid to the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be on the line when the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team faces Boise State on Thursday, March 4. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m. MT (4:05 p.m. HT) at the Taco Bell Arena.

The two teams are currently tied for eighth place in the WAC with two regular-season games remaining. The Rainbow Warriors (10-18, 3-11 WAC), who defeated Boise State (13-16, 3-11 WAC) earlier this season in Honolulu, can clinch a WAC Tournament berth with a win over the Broncos. A Boise State victory would not eliminate the Rainbow Warriors from WAC Tournament contention. However, it would put the 'Bows in a precarious position, including a must-win situation in their season-finale on Saturday, March 6 against an Idaho team that is one game ahead of UH. Boise State concludes the season by hosting San Jose State that same day.

Both the 'Bows and Broncos enter the game with momentum. UH is coming off a 74-63 win over Nevada on Saturday, a win that snapped a nine-game losing streak. UH led by as many as 17 points against the Wolf Pack and scored 12 of the game's final 14 points to turn back a Nevada rally. Leading scorer Roderick Flemings (16.6 ppg) posted 20 points and 12 rebounds for UH, while the 'Bows also got career performances from Hiram Thompson (19 points) and Adhar Mayen (17 points).

Boise State, meanwhile, went 1-1 on the road last week, including a big 72-59 upset of Louisiana Tech. In their next game at New Mexico State, the Broncos nearly erased a 20-point deficit, before falling to the Aggies, 95-92. Boise State got a career game from forward Robert Arnold who garnered WAC Player of the Week honors after posting 35 points and 15 rebounds.
