Men’s Basketball Faces Idaho In WAC Regular-Season Finale

Game Notes

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will be playing for its post-season life when it faces off with Idaho on Saturday, March 6. Tip-off is 5:05 p.m. PT (3:05 p.m. HT) at the Cowan Spectrum.

The Rainbow Warriors missed a golden opportunity to qualify for next week's Western Athletic Conference Tournament when they fell at Boise State on Thursday, 82-63. That loss dropped the 'Bows into ninth-place in the standings with the top eight teams qualify for the tournament in Reno, Nev., March 11-13. UH, however, still has a shot at making it to Reno. Hawai`i must win its regular-season finale at Idaho on Saturday then get help, including wins by San Jose State over Boise State and Nevada over Louisiana Tech, to qualify for the tournament.

Idaho, meanwhile, earned a spot in the tournament with an 86-76 home win over San Jose State on Thursday night. Mac Hopson and Kashif Watson each scored 17 points for the Vandals. Idaho, currently in seventh place will be playing for seeding and can either finish seventh of eighth, pending Saturday's results.

Should Hawai`i not make it to the WAC Tournament, it will be just its second absence since the inception of the tournament in 1984. The last time UH did not appear was in 1999 when the conference had 16 teams in two divisions. The top six teams in each conference qualified with UH finishing seventh in the Pacific Division that season (6-20, 3-11 WAC).
